Schiever and Intersport Expand into Portugal
The Schiever Group is taking another step forward in its international expansion.
INTERSPORT France, a sporting goods retailer, announces the opening of its first store in Portugal, located in Felgueiras, northeast of Porto.
This new location is being developed by the Schiever Group, a member of the INTERSPORT France cooperative and the operational partner for the project. It also marks Portugal’s entry into the INTERSPORT International network, which is already present in 40 countries around the world.
A few months after the announcement of the creation of a dedicated Iberian subsidiary, this opening marks the first concrete step in INTERSPORT France’s expansion into Portugal. It demonstrates the French cooperative model’s ability to support the development of new markets while adapting to local conditions and consumer expectations.
A modern concept and a customer promise: “Committed to Sports, Committed to Price”
With 1,800 m² of retail space located in the heart of the new Retail Park, this store features a modern, dynamic, and welcoming design. True to its “Committed to Sports, Committed to Prices ” promise, the store aims to make sports accessible to all budgets.
The offering is organized around three specialized areas:
- Performance: Equipment for soccer, futsal, running, swimming, tennis, padel, and other sports.
- Wellness, Fitness & Outdoor: Sections dedicated to fitness training, yoga, hiking, and camping, as well as a cycling section.
- Fashion & Lifestyle: A comprehensive selection of clothing and shoes featuring major international brands.
To ensure this affordability, the store offers many products for less than €10, as well as major brands at competitive prices year-round, all backed by an attractive loyalty program.
Expertise and local roots at the heart of the project
To lead this new location, the Schiever Group has promoted internal mobility by appointing Alexandre Pereira as director. This Franco-Portuguese director, drawing on his experience with the company in France, has chosen to relocate to Portugal to take on this new challenge. He will be supported by a team of 22 locally recruited employees.
This team’s goal is to support local residents in their daily sports activities by offering personalized advice. Beyond simply selling sporting goods, the store is an integral part of local life thanks to the establishment of dedicated technical service centers: A maintenance and repair shop dedicated to bicycles. A stringing service for racquet sports. Special offers for clubs and local communities, designed to actively support the region’s nonprofit sector.
